It is that time of the year for us to gather with our families, listen to family members discuss and/or argue over the dinner or placement while ahem, the men veg out in front of the Dallas Cowboys game cough*cough dad. [I know I'm a little late, Thanksgiving is o-v-e-r! Work was crazy because of black Friday, but I survived again this year, whew!] But the weather is so crisp and wintry, I just love fall holidays! And since the winter season doesn't officially start until next month I wanted to write about all the fall trends A-Z.
My fashion alphabet consists of great trends, and of course some of our beloved fashionista's that would go perfect for the fall/winter season, so I hope you have made room for desert I have nice helping of fashion to get your taste buds salivating!
A- is for Architectural.
This concept for this trend is anything structured with extra pizazz in the smallest, yet crucial details.
B- is for Bargains.
Just because they're famous doesn't mean they can't enjoy a cheap thrill! Like the previous post I wrote about, celebrity fashionista's love a good buy every now and then. Can you believe Angelina's dress was only $26? Or how about those amazing H&M dresses that Beyonce, Miley and Eva have on? While Audrina skirt is less than $60, not too bad but I prefer the $26 dress!
C- is for Cobain, as in Kurt Cobain.
Whoever said grunge is dead obviously doesn't know that fashion is a cycle, therefore one must always re-cycle our clothes, you never know what will be the trend or style in the coming years.
D- is for DIY [Do it Yourself].
I don't know about you all but I love to sketch and sew. It may be a while since I last created anything but I want to bring out my sewing machine out of retirement and create some new master pieces. It's not that expensive, and you can use clothes you already have... Some times clothes just need a little rejuvenation. [pic is from Decor8.]
E- is for Eighties.
Madonna. What else can I say? The woman is an American icon, and since the 80's trend is coming back, who else to turn to for inspiration than the women that made trends happen? I also posted pictures of her adorable hipster daughter Lourdes Leon, who is taking after her mom in the style department... Can't wait to see more of her as she gets older, she already has an quirky, hip, retro sense of style.
F- is for Fluorescent.
Bright colors are a staple for fall/winter no more black, plums, and burgundies. It's all about making a splash!
G- is for girl meets boy.
Another previous post that I wrote about, menswear inspirations. Women really can do it all, and look great along the way.
H- is for haute hippie.
Yet another trend that I have always been infatuated with, is the hipster/bohemian trend. It's a more luxe hippie look. Vintage is best to achieve the look, just make sure to wear lots of beads, headbands, leather [faux or real], feathers... etc.
I- is for inky leggings.
This look is very rocker chic, looks amazing with a blouse-y, flow-y top to contradict the look of the pants. Blazers also work, even fur coats look fab.
J- is for jackets galore.
I love jackets, I have so many different styles of them. Blazers, bombers, hoodies, trenches, cropped, short sleeved... I love them all. So this season, don't settle for any coat, make sure to stand out and wear as many different ones... Mix and match prints like Lucy Liu, or go for the boho luxe look like Kate Hudson, or go for a classic girly look like Riley Keough.
K- is for Knee length skirts.
Knee length skirts are so classically feminine, and ultra chic. A fab pencil skirt is a great alternative to a mini and it looks great with any fitted top.
L- is for lace.
I love the look of lace, it's so delicate and intricate but of course you want to avoid looking like a doily. Breezy lace dresses always look good, Michelle Williams dress is a 1920's Chanel dress and it looks incredible. Heidi Klum and Julia Louis-Dreyfus prove lace looks amazing in bold colors.
M- is for McQ, as in Alexander McQueen for Target.
Alexander McQueen is so innovative and his creations are always so ornate and gorgeous, so when I heard that he was going to team up with Target for a sister line, I was ecstatic. Here are two sneak-peeks that will be featured in his collection. I am counting down the days until it is in stores!
N- is for nude awakening.
The color nude is always so beautiful, and earthy. Natural is always a great alternative to bright colors. Just because your in a nude dress doesn't mean you won't make an impact!
O-is for oops! Fashion oops that is.
Whether your in head-to-toe burgundy, or dressed like a hanky. Make sure to really take a long look in the mirror. Fashion oops' are awful and it's always good to have a bestie to help make sure you look amazing [bestie's always tell the truth!]. Ripped jeans are okay, but when you're taking style cue's from Brooke Hogan, yeah that's not okay. Mischa Barton wearing those 'mom' pleated pants, although I love her bustier. Rose McGowen is just a mess, and here we have Mischa again, in a gorgeous yet ill fitting dress.
P- is for prep school.
It's all about the collegiate look, so take cue's from Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl, and try on anything super feminine and classics. Cardigans, blazers, and crisp button down shirts. I am in love with Tinsley Mortimer's outfit, even her purse is plaid, that's a classic prepster pattern.
Q- is for quirky.
I love fashionista's with quirky style. Carrie Bradshaw definitely tops my list, as does Sarah Jessica Parker but instead of featuring them I wanted to feature a girl with amazing style that not many know about [you may she's not mentioned as much as say SJP]. I am talking about Ally Hilfiger, in my first blog I wrote I counted her as one of my girl crushes and her style continues to amaze me.
R- is for rock steady.
I am a huge rock 'n' roll fan. I love the Ramones, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Blink-182, No Doubt, The Eagles, Good Charlotte, Goo Goo Dolls, Lenny Kravitz, Lynryd Sknyrd, Kid Rock, Queen, Tom Petty and much more. So when I am in a rocker chic kind of look I turn on my ipod and blast the music and find inspiration in these amazing musicians but of girls make it edgy and feminine. Androgyny is sexy... Like Annie Lennox, David Bowie, and Cate Blanchette in I'm Not There, just to name a few.
S- is for sparkly, shimmery, and shiny sequins.
If florescent, isn't your thing you should try on a sparkly dress and you'll be sure to shine at any holiday party! I love Eva Longoria Parke's sparkly zebra print dress, and Hilary Duff mixes her sparkle with snake print Loubatins. Jennifer Lopez's striped dress is b-ee-a-you-ti-ful, and I love the quirky vertical striped shift that Mary-Kate has. Sophia Bush's DVF shift is drool worthy as is Heidi Klum, her legs look fantastic. Lust worthy sparkle shifts are a perfect choice for a Christmas party.
T- is for taking sides.
The asymmetrical sleeve dress or shirts, are so chic and sexy. Imagine going to date night in a dress like this, or if your not digging the whole sequin look, the asymmetrical sleeve dress is a great and less flashy alternative.
U- is for ultimate classics, like flats, pearl necklaces and trenches.
A girl can never go wrong with the classics. Flats are comfy and stylish when your not in the mood to sport heels, let's face it we all have our days when we choose comfort over style and flats are great and they go with everything! Pearl necklaces are elegant and will never go out of style, they look amazing with chic dresses, or even simple t-shirts. Trench coats give a touch of mystery and sex appeal, and modern trenches like the one Emma Watson and Hilary Duff have are extremely stylish.
V- is for velvet.
Velvet is back, and it's back in a major way. The rich, heavy, but the über soft fabric that has taken a turn for the better. Today's velvet evokes romance and richness without conjuring up images of royalty from the Medieval times era or even holiday dresses that I'm sure I wasn't the only one that wore them when I was five in the early '90s. But as long as you look great right?W- is for western plaid.
I'm sure you all know that I am a big fan of this look for fall, it's cozy and charming. It's also really easy to incorporate plaid pieces into your wardrobe. With sophisticated and feminine jackets, skirts, dresses, shirts, shoes and bags available, plaid can easily be an accessory or the focal point of your look and you'll look amazingly stylish and hip.X- is for xtra big jewelry.
I'm sure we've all had moments like we just can't find anything to wear. Even if you purchased some new clothes, and no matter how many times you try to mix and match, still stuck. I know I've had plenty of days like these well I have the answer for you... Xtra big jewelry. Of course keep a neutral backdrop for your necklace that way you'll keep the attention on the jewelry, so opt for solid colors when choosing your outfit.
Y- is for yummy scents.
Don't forget that smelling incredible is a ket staple in your wardrobe, here a few of my personal fave scents. Smelling good is just as important as your hair looking good, I've seen great outfits look bad just because of the hair and well bad b.o.!
Z- is for Zap! Zing! Zip!
Superhero fashion has been very big this year. It was even the MET's theme this year, and well of course we've all the similarities of Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera's new superhero look. Well I wanted to feature Lady Gaga because I find her interesting and innovative. Definitely a new fashion 'it' girl, very much a fashion heroine!
