Haute Hippie

It is the dawning of the age of Aquarius once again! The official 40th anniversary of Woodstock is August 15 to August 18, and to commemorate the summer of love I thought up this brilliant post to show my love for all things 60s-70s, but this especially particular time in 1969.
[F.Y.I. Woodstock was held at Max Yasgur's 600 acre dairy farm in a small town of Bethel, New York {southwest of the town Woodstock, New York.} Thirty-two of, what I think, the best musicians ever appeared during the weekend of free love, music, and of course free drugs in front of nearly half a million people.]

With the war going on over seas and the economy still in a slump it's no wonder there are many comparisons of my generation to those of this particular time, except now the once uncool and 'evil' establishment is now different with our new leader, President Barack Obama, it's a different kind of movement in the culture, we're all realizing that we kind of need to work together.

I know were all being hit hard with the current slump [slump is what I call the economy] our fashionable wallets are being pulled in every direction. Instead of maybe purchasing those amazingly dazzling Jimmy Choos that are on sale we have to think rationally and actually choose groceries or rent over fashion! Shudder at the thought but really a fashion lover such as I can only live off of sunshine, water, and fashion magazines, and cereal for so long.

But as my previous hippie post I have a clear answer... Thrift shopping. I know some of you dolls may think that second hand is totally out of the question but we all know that fashion recycles and that one day in fashion it's in and the next out.
I love visiting flea markets and vintage shops they have incredible items, I suggest if you visit one of these places A). Go early in the morning B). Bring cash, sorry no plastic C). Be super sweet and chummy with the workers, the nicer you are the more great deals you score also it helps if you visit regularly.

And if you're needing just a little bit more, here is some inspiration. I made these two collages filled with modern day and old school haute hippies.

Also we can't forget about the modern day hippie luxe fashionista's, here are a few of my fave ladies.

Nicole Richie
Mary-Kate Olsen
Zoë Kravitz Rachel Zoe Sienna Miller Kate Hudson

What a great post! And I agree that thfit store shopping is the way to go. Besides getting looks that will always come back, you're bound to find more unique clothes which aren't available in every chain store, plus it's a lot more sustainable. Love the collages and all the style pics. Zoe Kravitz is my favorite. I always suspected she got a bit of the hippy vibe from her dad ;-)

I do love giving it a twist and going for (what I call) the glamorous hippie! (: It feels much more me! And thrifting is the perfect way to shop for hippie lovin'! (:

I'm still awaiting the BB Dakota Battalion jacket - I feel like such a child checking my front door at 5 (that's when the UPS guy comes! lol) everyday! (: Hopefully it comes soon so my childish antics come to an end (for now... (; )

bisous,
La C.
